Highland Productions provides video & DVD production as well as Avid HD video editing facilities on the Black Isle near Inverness.
As well as editing and DVD production I also like to get out and about as a location sound recordist and as a cameraman.
I am John Hay and I began my media career as a film editor at Yorkshire Television in 1979 working on news, network documentaries and drama. I have been freelance since 1993.

Having begun my career in television as a film editor in 1979 I have a long experience of many kinds of programming. Using the power of Avid Media Composer I can cope with a wide range of formats in Standard and High Definition. Multicamera editing.
As a bit of a musician I started recording sound as a teenager. Before working in television I ran a PA Hire company mixing live music. Later I was Deputy Chief Technician at Leeds Playhouse with responsibility for sound.
I now enjoy location sound recording using a Sennheiser MKH 30/60 MS stereo pair with SQN mixer and Micron Explorer and Sony radio mics.
Athough not my first skill I am increasingly pleased with my camera work using a Sony Z5 HDV Camera. I can also provide Digibeta or XDCam HD 50mb/sec by enlisting the services of a colleague locally.
Having worked in broadcast TV for 30 years I am well qualified to film, edit and make DVDs of your wedding using widescreen camera & broadcast quality radio microphones.
Earlier this year I completed the online edit of "Horo Gheallaidh" - a 13 part music series for MacTV and BBC Alba.
The Tall Ships Visit to Orkney 2011
Having returned from filming the Tall Ships visit to Orkney in July, our 40 minute DVD of is now available.
I will be returning to Orkney in the Spring to work on other projects involving Scapa Flow & Flotta.
Fèis Rois is 25!
On 11th November I shot the Fèis Rois 25th Anniversary Concert at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness. A DVD is now available from their website.

A film I made in association with "Another Orkney Production" is now showing at the the 11th Annual Imperial War Museum Film Festival which "showcases some of the most imaginative and thought-provoking short-films being made by young and aspiring filmmakers, inspired by the IWM collections and using footage from our industry-respected film archive".
